Self-perception, body image and self-esteem are central issues in eating disorders. Brain chemistry is an important factor in self-perception. Neurotransmitters can affect self-perception. Brain chemistry imbalances can affect self-image, and disordered thinking can affect brain chemistry. Identification and correction of brain chemistry imbalances are integral to developing effective treatment plans. This session will explore brain chemistry and its affect on body image and the effects of eating disorders on brain chemistry. The session will also feature an in-depth look at ways to identify and overcome brain chemistry imbalances in individuals with eating disorders to help improve self-perception and body image.
